Thyroid Ghana Foundation (TGF), during the 2021 World Thyroid Awareness Week (25 – 31 May 2021), collaborated with the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to support thyroid patients who required thyroid surgeries but were having financial difficulties in paying for their surgeries.
This collaboration dubbed “Project Subsidized Thyroidectomy”, gave space for the first 20 persons requiring thyroid surgeries to have their surgery at one third of the actual costs (between GHS 6,500 – GHS 8,000).
As part of continued collaboration between TGF and UGMC, and to mark this years World Thyroid Awareness Week (25 – 31 May 2022),
efforts are being made to enable persons with thyroid conditions to undergo thyroidectomies at a subsidized cost.
There is however a need to still cover the cost of other medical supplies to support the surgeries such as analgesics, antibiotics, ward dressing, sutures, thyroid drugs, help pay for laboratory investigations and medical imaging services.
