A (non-exhaustive) list of factors that increase the likelihood that your complaints are caused by an (untreated) thyroid disease.

  • Women (have a high chance of developing thyroid disease than men)
  • Preventing autoimmune disorders in the family
  • Having a (different) autoimmune condition yourself
  • Excessive use of soy products or iodine / kelp containing dietary supplements
  • Use of thyroid hormones without thyroid disease, eg in fatburner, sports supplement, waste product, etc ..
  • Use of certain medications (including lithium, amiodarone, interferon)
  • Radioactive treatment or many x-ray photos in the neck area
  • (too much stress
  • Smoking or smoking in the past
  • ‘Depression’ that does not respond to standard treatment
  • Allergy or hypersensitivity (developed)
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS / ME) and Phybromyalgia can be caused by an untreated / undiagnosed thyroid disease
  • Burn out or overworked
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Multiple miscarriages or difficulty in getting pregnant
  • Too high or too low blood pressure
  • Too high cholesterol, which does not respond well to diet
  • Arrive without eating (or exercising less) or losing weight
  • Severely tired (stay) after delivery
  • Double vision, light sensitivity, varying strengths and / or cylinders
  • Menstrual complaints or (early) menopausal symptoms
  • Anemia, VitB12 deficiency (pernicious anemia) or VitD deficiency
  • Unexplained reduced condition
  • Muscle pains, muscle weakness, joint pains, susceptible to tendon infections, rapid acidification of the muscles, slow recovery of (sporting) efforts
  • Moisture accumulation in legs (can also be hands, face, eyes)
  • Problems with singing; hoarse, lowered voice
  • Sensitive to seasonal changes (‘feeling less’ in the winter)
